Spetzerfehn is a village in the municipality of Großefehn , district of Aurich , in East Frisia . The place is east of the federal highway 72 between Aurich and Leer (East Frisia) .

history

The area of today's Spetzerfehn village consisted without exception of high moor until the middle of the 18th century . The story of Spetzerfehn began with the "highest official approval" of March 29, 1746, which at that time was still called "Königliches Vehn ". The permit ordered that a peat dig should be built in the area near Ulbargen. The name Spetzerfehn is derived from "Spetze". This was a connection across the high moor from Strackholt to Aurich-Oldendorf, which was mentioned on a map by Ubbo Emmius as early as 1595.

The designation "Königliches Vehn" gave way to names like "Vehn bey Ulbargen" and "Torfgräberey bey Ulbargen" until the pastor of Bagband entered the name "Spetze" in the church book as the birthplace of the first newborn.

Since July 1, 1972 the place belongs to the community Großefehn.

Attractions

Spetzerfehn windmill
  • The three-story Dutch gallery windmill in Spetzerfehn is one of five surviving windmills in the community of Großefehn, which, unlike the other four, is still used commercially. It was built in its current form in 1886 and modernized in 1961 to enable grinding with motor power. In daily operation, however, the drive with wind power is still used today, if the weather conditions permit.
  • Another special feature of the place is the modern Spetzerfehner Church , which was only built in 1971 and rebuilt and expanded in 1995.

Personalities

  • The East Frisian poet Greta Schoon (* July 11, 1909, † March 7, 1991) was born in Spetzerfehn; she was buried here under the name of Margaretha Börchert's Schoon.
  • The local writer Johann Schoon (1894–1968) was born in Spetzerfehn.
