Ostgroßefehn is the youngest part of the community Großefehn in the district of Aurich in Lower Saxony . The older parts of the community are Westgroßefehn and Mittegroßefehn .

history

The settlement of today's Ostgroßefehn began around 1790. The municipality boundary to Mittegroßefehn forms today's federal highway 72 in the west , in the east the place borders on the urban area of Wiesmoor .

How they are common in other Fehn settlements were created in Ostgroßefehn very late. The creation of the Rolofswieke began around 1885, the Westerwieke around 1890, the Louisenwieke around 1895 and the Stelzenwieke around 1933/34. Today only part of the Rolofswieke belongs to the municipality, the other Inwieken today belong to the city of Wiesmoor.

In the period from 1828 to 1882 there was a glassworks in Ostgroßefehn. Flower pots, flower sticks, glasses and bottles for pharmacies, wine shops, breweries and restaurants were made there. Window glass was also made. However, this was not bright enough, so that production was soon stopped.

In 1835, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Großefehn, a mound of earth was raised at the end of the canal bed, which was named after the then director Arend Hoppe Arendshügel . Arend Hoppe piled up the first cart with excavated earth. Today the hill is a popular lookout point for cyclists.

The Ostgroßefehner Church was consecrated on December 22, 1895.

On July 1, 1972, Ostgroßefehn was incorporated into the new community of Großefehn.
