Johann Schretter
Johann Schretter (also Schroetter ; * around 1620 ; † February 20, 1685 ) was a German painter in Poland-Lithuania .
Life
Johann Schretter came from Prussian Stargard (or Danzig ?) In Polish Prussia . The earliest mention of him is from 1641. Schretter lived temporarily in Frombork in Warmia and in 1646 painted several altar paintings for the new Brigittenkirche in Grodno, then Lithuanian . He then went to Vilnius (Wilna), but emigrated to Königsberg in Prussia in 1655 because of the war and then returned to Vilnius.
Johann Schretter was in contact with other painters in the city. A student Johann was named in 1677. Schretter was a member of the Martinsbruderschaft at the Jesuit Church of St. Ignatius and was temporarily its chairman.

Portraits and altar paintings by Johann Schretter have been preserved in museums and churches in Belarus, Poland and Lithuania. The people depicted are statically represented, with fine details and mostly a dark background.
