Johann Schweigkofler

Johann Schweigkofler (born January 8, 1957 in Sankt Johann in Tirol ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and secondary school teacher. He has been a member of the Federal Council for Tyrol since 2010 and mayor of the municipality of Oberndorf in Tyrol since 1992 .

education and profession

Schweigkofler attended elementary school in Oberndorf in Tirol between 1963 and 1967 and then continued his education at secondary school in St. Johann in Tirol from 1967 to 1971. In 1971 he moved to the music-pedagogical upper-level high school in Innsbruck , where he passed the Matura in 1975. Schweigkofler completed his professional training between 1975 and 1978 at the Pedagogical Academy in Innsbruck. Schweigkofler worked as a secondary school teacher between 1978 and 2010 and served his military service between 1984 and 1985.

As mayor of Oberndorf, Schweigkofler has been a member of the supervisory board of the St. Johanner Bergbahnen since 2007. He is also a member of the association assembly in the Grossache-Nord wastewater association and chairman of the Kitzbühel waste management association.

Schweigkofler began his political career in local politics and was elected to the Oberndorf municipal council in 1986. In 1992 he took over the office of mayor that he has held since then. In addition, he became a member of the board of the Tyrolean municipal association in 1998 and was chairman of the Tyrolean association of municipal representatives from 2003 to 2009. Since 2005 he has also been a member of the board of the Austrian Association of Municipalities. Schweigkofler has also been the district chairman of the SPÖ Kitzbühel since 2009 and has represented the SPÖ Tyrol in the Federal Council since November 17, 2010. Since 2011 he has been secretary in the Committee on Education, Art and Culture of the Federal Council, since 2010 a member of the standing joint committee in the National Council and a member of the Committee for Internal Affairs of the Federal Council. According to his own statements, Schweigkofler is primarily committed to the topics of school, education and local politics.

Schweigkofler is married and has two children.
