Johann Carpenter

Johann Tischler (born May 5, 1946 in Innsbruck ; † May 10, 2019 ) was an Austrian linguist .

Life

He studied Indo-European and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Innsbruck . He was a research assistant, lecturer and later a temporary professor at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen (1971–1979). After his habilitation in 1975 in Giessen for the subject “Comparative Indo-European Linguistics”, he was a Heisenberg fellow from 1980 to 1985 from the German Research Foundation . From 1993 until his retirement in 2011, he taught at the TU Dresden as a full professor of general and comparative linguistics.
