Johann Wilhelm
Johann Wilhelm (* 1595 in Bezau / Vorarlberg ; † after 1669 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German carpenter and architect of Austrian origin.
life and work
Johann Wilhelm grew up in the Bregenzerwald , received civil rights as a carpenter by marrying a woman from Frankfurt in 1621 and gained a reputation as a successful architect.
His two-volume work “Architectura civilis”, published in 1649, achieved several editions and was a standard work for wood construction until the second half of the 18th century. For the second edition of 1668 the Frankfurt copperplate engraver Sebastian Furck made 41 copper plates with explanations. Wilhelm dedicated the work to Landgrave Ludwig von Hessen .
Johann Wilhelm married again in 1630 and a third time in 1669.
