Johanna Sickinghe

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johanna Sickinghe (full name Johanna Ignatia Jacobia Sickinghe-Nepveu tot Ameijde ; born December 19, 1858 in Groningen ; † March 3, 1942 ) was the second female composer of chess studies after Edith Baird . She had the title of nobility " Jonkvrouw ".

Sickinghe published under the pseudonym Jowes studies. Her first study appeared on January 16, 1916, according to clerk Gustav Adolf Olland, probably inspired by a study by Carel Mann , in the left-wing political De Groene Amsterdammer , in which two more studies and threesomes by her later appeared. She was often listed under the abbreviation JS as a successful solver of the chess column. John Selman revealed her identity in 1942, but only after her death.
