The Johannes-Nepomuk-Gymnasium Rohr (short: JNG) is one of the three high schools in the district of Kelheim , Lower Bavaria .

history

After the Second World War , the displaced Benedictine monks from the Bohemian Braunau monastery settled in the secularized Rohr monastery in 1946 . Just one year later, they founded the grammar school with boarding school in continuation of the Braunau Latin school, which had already existed in the 13th century. Lessons began in the village school with 32 students. The Fathers were the first to be supplemented by secular teachers. At that time, the JNG was the only grammar school in the area between Landshut, Regensburg and Ingolstadt. In 1962, the Abitur took place in-house for the first time.

Father Konstantin Mach OSB became known as a long-time director . Under him and his successors, the number of students increased every year, so that the school building had to be gradually expanded and sports facilities with a swimming pool were built. The boarding school was closed at the end of July 2011 and its premises were rebuilt to expand the offerings at the grammar school and to look after the students.

The namesake of the Johannes Nepomuk school was and is a symbol for building bridges between Eastern and Western Europe.

structure

Support the school is the Abbey of the Benedictines in tube. The JNG is a private, state-recognized “linguistic” grammar school with the languages Latin , English and French. Since the 2011/2012 school year, the school has also offered a "musical branch" with the language sequence Latin and English. Elective courses are offered in a wide variety of areas. The JNG is also a base school for judo .
