The St. Johannes Nepomuk Chapel in Arnsberg dates from the 18th century .

The chapel, which today stands in the middle of Arnsberger Neustadt, was originally built far away from the city in the Arnsberger Feldmark on the other side of the Ruhr . The building was built around 1720/21 from collections. In 1749 it was enlarged and raised. It is consecrated to Saint John Nepomuk . Stylistically, it shows elements of the late renaissance as well as baroque features . The chapel consists of a small rectangular hall and a retracted choir. The chapel has a ridge turret with a turret bell from the Wedinghausen monastery that was cast in 1899 .

In the 19th century, when Arnsberg was expanding, it was intended to be the center of a marketplace that had never been built; later it was threatened with demolition. Thanks to donations, the building was preserved and renovated around 1860. During the First World War it served as a chapel for a nearby military hospital. Later it was used for school services and during the Second World War it was used for masses for the forced laborers employed in the city . At the beginning of the 1980s the chapel was renovated again. Today the chapel stands right next to the Brückencenter shopping center and is only occasionally used as a place of worship by the Liebfrauengemeinde. In addition, it has been used by the Arnsberg Catholic Educational Center for series of events since 2008.
