Johannes (Maieriensis)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes was titular bishop "Maieriensis" and in 1388 as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Cammin .

He was a Dominican . It is not clear to which titular bishopric the term "Maieriensis" refers. The church historian Konrad Eubel (1913) refers the name “Maieriensis” or “Mayeriensis” to the city of Chersonese in the Crimea. Since he gives no justification for this and also lists a titular bishopric "Chersonensis", this identification cannot be regarded as secure.

In 1388, Bishop Johannes worked as auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Cammin for the diocesan bishop Johannes Brunonis : in 1388 he consecrated the Augustinian church in Königsberg Nm. with six altars. The seal of Bishop Johannes on the relevant document shows a naked figure ( Man of Sorrows ?) In the upper half and the adoring bishop in the lower half. The indistinct transcription reads: "sigillum Johannis, dei gratia episcopi Maieriensis ecclesie".
