John (Exarch)
Johannes († 615) was an Eastern Roman Patricius and Exarch of Ravenna from 608 (?) Until his death.
He owed his office to the "cleansing" of the Byzantine administrative apparatus from the Phocas followers after Herakleios acceded to the throne . Johannes' predecessor Smaragdus was probably killed when he took office. Not much is known about John's tenure. Obviously he avoided armed conflicts with the Lombards . In 615 he was murdered along with a large number of officials. The Liber Pontificalis mentions that one of the first official acts of his successor Eleutherius was the liquidation of the alleged murderers.
