Life

Johannes Bleive was a son of the Orthodox priest and martyr Michael Bleive (1873-1919). From 1928 to 1931 he studied violin at the Higher Music School in Tartu and from 1931 to 1938 composition (in Heino Eller's class ). A year later, he completed his studies at the Tallinn Conservatory (now the Estonian Academy of Music and Theater ) as an external student in Artur Kapp's composition class .

From 1940 to 1985 Bleive was a lecturer in music theory at the Tartu Music School. He also worked as a conductor and music critic. Above all, however, Bleive became known as a composer in Estonia and beyond.
