Hans Blokland

Johannes (Hans) Blokland (born March 5, 1943 in Oegstgeest ) is a Dutch politician ( ChristenUnie ).

Blokland graduated from college in 1970 and received a PhD in Economics in 1976. He initially worked as a scientist at the Netherlands Institute for Economics. For many years he was a lecturer at the Erasmus University . He also headed the planning department of the regional authority for spatial planning (1976–1980) and the scientific service at the Central Statistical Office. From 1987 to 2000 he was a member of the Advisory Committee on Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Justice.

Before the founding of the ChristenUnie, Blokland belonged to one of the predecessor parties , the GPV . There he was first deputy chairman of the local association, then member of the board and chairman of the provincial association, later a member of the executive committee of and from 1984 to 1994 its chairman. Blokland was a member of the city council of Capelle aan den IJssel from 1974 to 1994 , in which he was also an alderman for some time. From 1982 to 1995 he was a member of the Provincial Council of South Holland . From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament . There he was co-chair of the EDD parliamentary group for several years .
