Johannes Erger

Johannes Erger (born September 1, 1928 in Holzwickede ; † July 21, 2003 in Aachen ) was a German historian , teacher and author .

Life

The former rector of the Rhineland University of Education was born on September 1, 1928 in Holzwickede as the son of a primary school director. After graduating from high school, Erger graduated from what was then the Pedagogical Academy in Münster. From 1951 to 1957 he worked as a primary school teacher. Erger then studied history, education and philosophy at the universities of Münster and Heidelberg . After completing his doctorate, at the end of 1963 he was appointed lecturer at the Aachen University of Education, which was taken over as a department in the newly founded Rhineland University of Education two years later . In 1967 he was appointed full professor at this department.

Erger's academic interest was in the history of the 19th and 20th centuries, and especially teacher training during this period. As a pedagogue, he was strongly committed to political education in schools. Within the university administration, Erger held the offices of dean and vice dean of the Aachen department and was rector of the entire Rhineland University of Education. He was committed to integrating the teacher training college into the technical college. Before reaching the age limit in 1993, Erger was chairman of the Foreign Institute of RWTH Aachen University for several years . As a retiree, he took on the honorary position of commissioner for the Erasmus program and intensified relations with the University of Kiev as a representative of RWTH Aachen University . He also headed the history association for the diocese of Aachen for many years. For his numerous services, Johannes Erger was awarded Dr. appointed hc.

Johannes Erger found his final resting place in the Hander Weg cemetery (Laurensberg).
