Johannes Fabri de Werdea

Johannes Fabri de Werdea (or de Donawerdt ; actually Johann Obermayer ; * unknown, probably between 1440 and 1450 in Donauwörth ; † 1505 ) was a Bavarian poet (Latin and German), humanist , lawyer and ducal Saxon councilor.

Life

Fabri de Werdea studied at the University of Leipzig (1470, Baccalaureus 1471, Magister 1476) and received his doctorate in law . From 1480 he was a notary or university secretary at the university. With the year 1481 he belonged to the Collegium principis. In 1486 he was rector of the University of Leipzig. In 1487 he was dean of the philosophy faculty. He gave lectures on literature, language, law, morals and philosophy. In 1491 he was sent from the University of Leipzig to Pope Innocent VIII in Rome. After disputes with the faculty, he was released from his offices in 1499. His most important work is a collection of German proverbs .
