Johannes Fischer (medic, 1613)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Fischer (* 1613 in Krenkingen ; † January 16, 1683 in Wels , Austria ) worked as a doctor of medicine in Upper Austria, first in Linz and Kremsmünster, then in Salzburg and finally in Wels.

Life

Johannes Fischer was born in Krenkingen as the son of the surgeon Caspar Fischer . In the absence of documents, his mother and the day and month of his birth are unknown. The year of birth, 1613, can only be found in the Austrian sources.

Studies and professional work

Obviously, his father, who practiced as a surgeon all his life, made it possible for his son Johannes to study medicine, although it is not known at which university he studied medicine. In addition to Freiburg, Vienna is also an option because of its proximity to Upper Austria. Based on an entry in the register of the University of Vienna, where a "Joannes Georgius Piscator Sueuus" (Johannes Georg Fischer, Schwabe) is listed, Austrian sources suspect that it could be the Krenkinger. The Bonndorf rule at that time, to which Krenkingen belonged, was still part of the Swabian district . Further faculty records name a medical student named Johann Fischer in 1635 and a Dr. of the same name in 1657. med. Accordingly, he would have studied in Vienna from around 1633. From 1640 he was already active in Upper Austria, from 1645 to 1656 (contract) doctor of the Kremsmünster monastery, was city physician in Linz, from 1668 Privy Councilor of the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg ( Max Gandolf Graf von Kuenburg, who ruled until 1687) and his primary and Leibmedicus until 1675. In that year Johannes Fischer moved to Wels, where a son, Caspar or Carl (there are two contradicting entries), died at the age of 27. In Wels he rejoined the previous protection as a land physician, without calling himself that or being allowed to call himself that. In the 60s of the last century its history was re-researched in Austria because of an epitaph in the cloister of the former Minorite monastery in Wels , which reminds of his life, whereby some information was incorrectly researched and therefore not reproduced here.

family

Fischer married Magdalena Heller (* approx. 1607, † 1672 in Salzburg) in Wels, with whom he had four children:
