Johannes Launhardt
Johannes Launhardt (born September 8, 1929 in Birnbaum ; † July 31, 2019 ) was a German theologian . He was bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgia from 2006 to 2009 .
Career
As a child he was expelled from Birnbaum with his family, he graduated from high school in Lübeck in 1948. He studied Protestant theology in Bethel , Hermannsburg , Birmingham and Hamburg.
He worked in Addis Ababa for 27 years, among other things as a pastor of the German-speaking parish in Addis Ababa , as well as a Bible school teacher and headmaster in various institutions in Ethiopia and as theological teacher and financial administrator of the Ethiopian Evangelical Mekane Yesus Church . He was already retired and then became an honorary pastor in Bashkiria , then provost of the ELCRAS of Moscow and Central Russia. On November 14, 2006 he was elected Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Georgia . His successor as bishop in Georgia was Heinrich Scheffer for a few months, then Hans-Joachim Kiderlen .
Launhardt married Christa Tuttas in 1956 and they had three daughters.
Awards
- 1975 Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for social commitment in Ethiopia, for a street children project
- 1991 the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class, for engagement in hunger relief and for political prisoners.
- 2014 culture award for deserving employees and cultural workers from the Weichsel-Warthe area of the Weichsel-Warthe country team.
