Johannes Möller

Johannes Möller (born November 29, 1981 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish classical guitarist and composer .

education

Möller studied guitar with Gary Ryan and Carlos Bonell at the Royal College of Music in London, where he completed his Bachelor of Music with distinction. He completed his master's degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague , where he received a scholarship for excellent students, which enabled him to study privately with Pavel Steidl in the Czech Republic and to take lessons in composition with Dušan Bogdanović in the USA. He made his second master's degree at the Conservatory in Amsterdam , where he studied with Lex Eisenhardt . He also studied composition there with Richard Ayers .

guitarist

At the age of 13 he played his first public concerts. Since then, more than 500 appearances have followed in Europe, Asia, South and North America. In 2010 he won first prize at the GFA Concert Artist Competition , which is considered the most prestigious competition in the world for guitar. As part of the award, he will play over 50 concerts in America and China in 2011 and 2012 as well as release a CD on the Naxos label. As an artist, Möller is also known beyond the guitar community. For example, he won the Dutch Vriendenkrans Concours in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, in which top performers from all instrumental groups compete. As part of this award, his name was engraved on a metal plate in the aisle around the Kleine Zaal. He was also the first guitarist to win the Swedish Ljunggrenska Competition in 2007 and the first guitarist to win at The Bromsgrove Festival International Young Musicians Platform in England in 2005.

composer

At the age of twelve, Möller began as a self-taught composer to write a large number of mainly chamber music works for various ensembles. A selection of these works were recorded on CD with some of the best instrumentalists in Sweden when he was only 14 years old. In response, the Swedish newspaper Göteborgs-Posten wrote “What should become of Johannes Möller? A Swedish Mozart - in our time? ” .

As a guitarist, Johannes Möller won several prizes in international competitions:

  • 1st Prize at the 18th GFA International Concert Artist Competition, Austin, Texas, June 2010

  • Vriendenkrans award, Netherlands 2008
  • 1st prize at the Ljunggrenska competition, Sweden 2007
  • 3rd prize at the Heinsberg International Guitar Competition and youth jury special prize, Germany 2005
  • 1st prize at Bromsgrove International Young Musicians Platform, England, 2005
  • 3rd prize at the Iserlohn International Guitar Competition, Germany, 2004
  • 3rd prize at the Sernancelle International Guitar Competition, Portugal, 2004
  • 3rd prize at the Sinaia International Guitar Competition, Romania, 2002
  • 1st prize at the Gevelsberg International Guitar Competition, Germany, 2002
  • 2nd prize at Admira Young Guitarist of the Year, England, 2001
