Dušan Bogdanović ( Serbian - Cyrillic Душан Богдановић ; * 1955 in Belgrade ) is an American guitarist and composer of Serbian origin.

Live and act

Bogdanović completed his studies at the Conservatoire de musique de Genève : he studied guitar with Maria Lívia São Marcos and composition and orchestration with Pierre Wissmer and Alberto Ginastera ; he received the only first prize at the Geneva competition. In 1977 he gave a highly regarded debut concert at Carnegie Hall .

As an innovative composer, improviser and guitarist, Bogdanović has explored musical languages ​​that are reflected in his style today; In his music he combines jazz, classical music and Balkan music to create a unique musical language. As a soloist and in collaboration with other artists, Bogdanović has toured numerous times in Europe, Asia and the United States. In the early 1980s he worked with Milcho Leviev and the Russian woodwind player Alexei Zubov in the Trio Lingua Franca . He went to the recording studio with chamber music groups of various styles, with Terry Graves and Kenton Youngstrom in the De Falla Guitar Trio and with jazz musicians such as James Newton , Charlie Haden , Miroslav Tadić , Mark Nauseef , Anthony Cox , Arto Tunçboyacıyan and others.

Bogdanović has published more than 100 compositions for publishers such as Bèrben, GSP or Doberman-Yppan, ranging from guitar and piano solo works to chamber music works and those for orchestral ensembles. As an instrumentalist, he has made almost twenty recordings from Bach trio sonatas to contemporary works. His album A Journey Home , presented with harpist Georgia Kelly , was in the Billboard Top Ten New Age .

Bogdanović was appointed professor at the Geneva Conservatory when he was in his early twenties. He later taught at the Belgrade Academy and the University of Southern California . Bogdanović then taught at the San Francisco Conservatory before returning to Geneva as a professor at the Haute école de musique de Genève . He divides his time between teaching, composing, analyzing and interpreting.
