Darling in the Franxx ( jap. ダーリン·イン·ザ·フランキス , therein Za Furankisu , subtitle: DARLING in the FRANXX ) is since January 2018 running, a total of 24 episodes comprehensive science fiction - Anime series , the studio trigger in Collaboration with A-1 Pictures is produced. It is broadcast on an international level via Crunchyroll and Funimation . One day after the broadcast of the first episode of the anime launched the manga series by Kentaro Yabuki in Japan .

The plot of Darling in the Franxx takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, in which humanity is in serious danger from gigantic beasts, the klaxosaurs ( 叫 竜 kyoryū , German for 'howler' ). The remnants of mankind live in mobile military cities , the plantations , where children are bred to fight the threat in gigantic mechas , the Franxx . The Franxx can only be controlled as boy / girl pairs - called parasites .
Hiro, one of the children who was predicted to have a particular talent, failed a test. So he cannot control any of these gigantic machines and lost all meaning of life. While staying away from the graduation ceremony, he meets Zero Two , a notorious Franxx pilot who belongs to a race of people with klaxosaur blood. After her partner is killed in a Klaxosaur attack, she convinces Hiro to become her new partner, whom she calls her darling .

- Hiro, actually code 016 , was once considered a child prodigy. He retired as a pilot cadet after losing his ability to pilot a Franxx until he encountered Zero Two. He looks for his place in the "Mysteltainn", the house in which the children are accommodated. So far, he is the only pilot who is able to pilot the Franxx Strelizia without suffering injuries. Only on the very first attempt to control Strelzia did he lose consciousness. Originally he was considered the leader of the Franxx pilots. He is the one who gave his siblings "nicknames".
- Code 002 ( コ ー ド 002 , Kōdo 002 ) /Zero Two ( ゼ ロ ツ ー , Zero Tsū )
- A mysterious young woman with red horns on her head. She carries the blue blood of the Klaxosaur. Zero Two is a notorious APE Special Forces Franxx pilot who is rumored to kill her partner pilots.

- She is the leader of her group and Hiro and Goro's best friend since childhood. She has suppressed feelings for Hiro while maintaining a stoic relationship with the others.
- Code 056 ( コ ー ド 056 , Kōdo 056 ) /Gorō ( ゴ ロ ー )
- Hiro and Ichigo's best friend since childhood. He secretly has feelings for Ichigo, but suppresses them because he is aware of Ichigo's feelings for Hiro.

- A Franxx pilot with a childish character. She often clashes with her partner Zorome.
- Code 666 ( コ ー ド 666 , Kōdo 666 ) /Zorome ( ゾ ロ メ )
- Zorome has a disgusting, obnoxious and lustful character. He has a grudge against Hiro and doesn't miss a chance to tease him. He later accepts Hiro as a comrade and also sees him as one of his friends. Zorome mostly acts without thinking for a second and can sometimes be impulsive and even childish. He likes to insult Futoshi just as much as Hiro.

- Kokoro is a Franxx pilot with a gentle character and a friendly charisma towards her siblings. As she progresses, she feels more and more drawn to Mitsuru.
- Code 214 ( コ ー ド 214 , Kōdo 214 ) /Futoshi ( フ ト シ )
- Futoshi is a chubby Franxx pilot who is constantly busy eating. Because of his overweight, he is teased by Zorome. Secretly he has feelings for Kokoro, to whom he promises to always protect them as long as they are in a Franxx.
Franxx Chlorophytum pilots :
- Code 196 ( コ ー ド 196 , Kōdo 196 ) /Ikuno ( イ ク ノ )
- Ikuno is a calm and withdrawn Franxx pilot.
- Code 326 ( コ ー ド 326 , Kōdo 326 ) /Mitsuru ( ミ ツ ル )
- Mitsuru is a calm but overwhelming Franxx pilot. Like Zorome, Mitsuru has a grudge against Hiro, but he doesn't show this as conspicuously as Zorome. On his second assignment, he controls a Franxx with Zero Two because his actual partner, Ikuno, has abnormal values and suffers physical and psychological damage in the process.

- Naomi is Hiro's former partner and, like him, was expelled from the pilot program. During their relocation, their capsule is attacked by a klaxosaur and seriously injured.

Anime
The anime series was announced by the animation studio Trigger during the Anime Expo in July 2017 . A-1 Pictures could be won as a partner . As a director , Atsushi Nishigori is responsible for the implementation of the anime. The character design is done by Masayoshi Tanaka . Produced Darling in the Franxx of Yosuke Toba , Mikio Uetsuki and Eiichi Kamagata while the music from the pen of Asami Tachibana comes. The opening is the song Kiss of Death by Mika Nakashima and Hyde , the song in the credits of the first six episodes is Torikago sung by XX: me (pronounced Kiss me ) - sung by the voice actors of the main female characters.
The 24 episodes were premiered from January 13th to July 7th on Tokyo MX , Tochigi TV , Gunma TV , BS11 , and with a few hours to days offset also on Asahi Hōsō TV , Mētele , AT-X , Hiroshima Home TV , San ' in Hōsō and Bivouac Hōsō . Crunchyroll shows the anime series in simulcast a . a. with German subtitles, while Funimation Darling in the Franxx broadcasts in English synchronization. Crunchyroll ordered a German dubbing for the series, which was released there on September 11, 2019. As part of the deal between Crunchyroll and Kazé Germany , Kazé has acquired the disc license and will release it on DVD and BluRay.

Manga
One day after the first episode of the anime was broadcast, two spin-off mangas were published on the Shonen Jump + website, which will be continued at regular intervals. The Yonkoma series is drawn by Mato and the main series by Kentarō Yabuki . On February 3, 2018, the first volume of Kentarō Yabuki's manga was published in paperback in Japan. In the first week, the first volume of the manga sold just over 50,000 times, making it number ten on the Japanese bestseller list for manga. The second volume of the manga was announced for Japan on May 2 of the same year.

controversy
After the 14th episode of the anime was broadcast on April 15, 2018, producer Yuichi Fukushima received angry emails from viewers of the anime series because they disagreed with Ichigo's behavior towards Zero Two. Yuichi posted two messages on the social network Twitter in which he thanked the production team for developing the episode and praised the "unique ending sequence" of the same. Both postings were commented by disappointed viewers of the series who expressed their displeasure. Some emails contained death threats against the director and the writer of the episode. Other comments threatened the murder of the screenwriter's family and called on Fukushima to dismiss or even kill the writer Hiroshi Seko. Under the hashtag #bitchigo , which was mainly used by English-speaking viewers, they let out their frustration and wished the character a serial death.
