Johannes Mössinger

Johannes Mössinger (born October 9, 1964 in Lahr ) is a German jazz pianist .

Mössinger began his musical career with the trumpet during his school days in Karlsruhe , and then switched to the piano as the main instrument. He later turned to jazz and studied from 1990 at the Bern University of Music . His music is influenced by jazz musicians such as Wolfgang Dauner and Joachim Kühn , but also by classical composers and artists such as Shostakovich , Glenn Gould and Eric Satie .

Mössinger played in various projects before he became known internationally in 1998, first as a soloist and nationally, and later from 2001 with his New York trio, to which Karl Latham and Kermit Driscoll belonged. Attracted attention u. a. a Syria tour in 2000, his classical-influenced composition Op.10 Jubilee with the Southwest German Chamber Ensemble and successful appearances in the USA. Projects and CD recordings of his trio with Joe Lovano and Bob Malach followed , before the band expanded into a quartet with saxophonist Don Braden from 2005 to 2007 . In 2009 a new NY quartet was formed with Joel Frahm , Calvin Jones and Karl Latham, which focuses on a program with exclusively the band leader's own compositions. Since 2013 he has been playing music for marimbaphone and piano in a cross-style duo with the classical percussionist Jochen Schorer .

In 2007 he founded a new jazz club with the Jazzkongress eV in Freiburg and has been organizing jazz concerts on a regular basis ever since.
