Johannes Monno

Johannes Monno (* 1968 ) is professor for guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart .

Life

Johannes Monno grew up in Haiger in central Hesse . He started playing the guitar at the age of six. From an early age he was also interested in the history of the guitar. He thoroughly researched the history and playing style of Vihuela da Mano , baroque guitar and chitarrone . First he received lessons from Michael Simon and Wilfried Halter. From 1989 to 1990 he studied with José Tomas in Alicante (Spain). He then continued his studies at the Cologne University of Music. As a DAAD scholarship holder , he rounded off his studies in Athens with Costas Cotsiolis. The most important teacher during his student days was the lutenist Konrad Junghänel .

The University of Music and Theater in Hamburg is his first stop in teaching. In addition to his main artistic subject, he also taught guitar methodology and didactics. From Hamburg he moved to the University of Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt, where he taught the history of the guitar and continuo playing. Monno has been a professor at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts since 2004.

Monno plays in several ensembles: Kolja Lessing (violinist and pianist) & Johannes Monno; Ensemble Rilegato (Olaf von Gonissen: Guitarra Mexika, Johannes Monno: Baroque guitar, Diego Jascalevich: Charango, vocals, Markus Reich: percussion); Trio-Gremonda (violin, flute, guitar) Alongside Thomas Müller-Pering and Olaf Van Gonnissen, he is editor of the Neue Karl Scheit series at Universal Edition and artistic director of the Stuttgart International Guitar Festival.

He lives in Haiger , is married and has two children. His daughter Paulina, also a guitarist, has already won the state and national winner of the “Jugend musiziert” competition.
