Johannes Wirtz (* around 1660 in Cochem ; † October 25, 1729 in Heimbach , Neuwied ) was the 53rd abbot of the Premonstratensian monastery in Rommersdorf.

Life

Johannes Wirtz was a nephew of Abbot Carl Wirtz and was prior in the Premonstratensian Monastery of Mariaroth near Waldesch before being elected abbot , and then provisional in the Rommersdorf Abbey . Elected abbot in 1706, he continued the construction work his uncle had started by having the church rebuilt and the convent wing rebuilt by craftsmen from Tyrol and Italy (completed in 1708). He also had a baroque garden based on the French model in 1711 and by 1715 the outer wall was drawn around the entire monastery area with the mills, gardens and barns. His coat of arms (and that of the convent) with the year 1708 can be seen in the stucco ceiling of the abbey's summer refectory . In the years 1723 to 1725, the Freihof in Moselweiß (Rommersdorfer Hof) was rebuilt opposite the church property (today owned by the parish); The coat of arms of Abbot Wirtz can also be found there next to an entrance door.

In 1712 Abbot Johannes began a trial against the Counts of Wied because of the farms in Aach and Mölsbach, which had been pledged to the monastery for 5000 thalers; In 1717 the monastery sued for repayment of the deposit.
