Mariaroth

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mariaroth (approx. 1130–1802) was a Premonstratensian pen .

location

The monastery was located in the Kondertal near Waldesch , district Dieblich on the Moselle. A district of Dieblich is named after the destroyed monastery today.

history

According to the Rheinischem Antiquarius, the Rode Abbey was founded by a gentleman von Schöneck . Bishop Albero von Liège initially called a priest from Floreffe near Namur to take care of them. A little later, he founded the Rommersdorf Premonstratensian Monastery , to which Mariaroth was subordinated. Although Mariaroth, like 54 other monasteries or foundations, was given a memorial foundation for the Luxembourgers by Archbishop Balduin in 1346, the aristocratic convent remained small. In 1231 the knight Arnold von Dieblich claimed bailiff rights. In 1574 a master and choir women moved from another unknown monastery to Mariaroth, as only one inmate lived here. The monastery buildings were destroyed in the Thirty Years War , but a new courtyard house was built in 1663. In the 18th century, the Archbishop of Trier temporarily had the plan to unite Mariaroth with Engelport Monastery . When the French moved in, the convent fled to Boppard in 1794 . The monastery buildings went up in flames. The pen was abolished in 1802 . Today only a few remains of the wall remain. The three altars from 1768 and 1774 as well as baroque figures of St. Norbert and Augustine came to the Niederfell church .

seal

The convent seal showed an enthroned Mother of God.
