The Johannes de Doperkerk ( German  John the Baptist Church ; also called Hervormde Kerk , German Reformed Church ) is the Evangelical Reformed parish church of Haamstede, a district of Burgh-Haamstede (municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland ) in the Dutch province of Zeeland .

history

The Johanneskirche zu Haamstede goes back to a foundation of the Bishop of Utrecht. It was first mentioned in 1226. The first church building made of tuff stone, the foundations of which could be dated to the 11th century in archaeological investigations in 1966, fell victim to a fire in 1506.

Soon after the fire, a large, late Gothic new building in the form of a three-aisled pseudo - basilica with a transept was started. The roof turret received a bell in 1532. After the introduction of the Reformation, the choir was no longer needed in Reformed worship and became dilapidated. The choir room was closed in 1605. A large Gothic window was built into the triumphal arch, which is now walled up. The transept was separated from the nave and the aisles in 1810 by a painted wooden wall.

The Reformed Congregation belongs to the United Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN) created in 2004 . She has joined the association PKN Kerken in de Westhoek van Schouwen-Duiveland .

organ

The first organ was inaugurated in 1921. It was a pneumatic instrument made by the organ builder ASJ Dekker (Goes). The present organ was built in 1987–1988 by the organ builder A. Nijsse en Zoon (Wolphaartsdijk), in which the pipe material from the Dekker organ was reused. The instrument has 15 stops on two manuals and a pedal .
