The church

The Church of John the Baptist is the Protestant church of the municipality of Hummelshain in the Saale-Holzland district in Thuringia . It belongs to the parish Kahla Hummelshain in Kirchenkreis Eisenberg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .

The church is in a predestined location in the middle of the village, surrounded by castles, parks and the citizens' properties.

history

The hall church with east choir and west tower , built in 1894 on the site of a previous building, is adapted to the neighboring neo-Gothic hunting lodge both inside and out. The windows in the choir are dedicated to Christ . The church owns sacred carvings from 1491. The organ was built in 1794 by Christian August Gerhard from Lindig and then adapted to the new building. The bells were melted down in the war. The steel bell replacement, which is now on display in front of the portal, was replaced by new bronze bells in 2002.
