Johannes von Klenedenst

John of Klenedenst (also: Clover Service Kleindienst, Clendenst ) (* in Lübeck , † 3. August 1387 ibid) was as John V. , a German bishop of Lübeck .

Life

According to an old Lübeck chronicle, Klenedenst was born of the good old generation. In the council files of Lübeck a Johann Kleendienst († 1273), Johann Kleindienst († 1311) and a Harmen (Hermann) Kleendienst († 1338) appear. The family does not seem to have been incapable of having acquired property in Timmendorfer Strand . Johannes was the son of a citizen of Lübeck. Determined by his family as to his spiritual status, he can be verified as a canon at Lübeck Cathedral from 1340 to 1362 and as dean of the same since around 1363.

In 1377 he was elected bishop by the Lübeck cathedral chapter . Therefore, Klenedenst went to Prague for his confirmation, there he learned that the Pope had appointed another bishop. This was the future Bishop Nikolaus I of Meissen , who had arrived in Lübeck between August 15th and September 8th. However, he did not stay long in Lübeck, since he received the diocese of Meissen on March 19, 1379 . Under his successor Konrad von Geisenheim , Klenedenst became vicar general and provost in Lübeck around 1381 . After his death, Klenedenst took over the office of bishop of the Lübeck diocese in 1386. He was not granted a long term of office and had no effect on the Lübeck diocese, as he died the following year.
