Hermann Klendenst (* in Lübeck ; † 1338 ibid) was a Lübeck merchant, banker and councilor.

Life

Hermann Klendenst was the son of the Lübeck citizen Konrad Klendenst and came from a Lübeck council family of the 13th century, who later also appointed Johannes von Klenedenst as one of the Lübeck bishops. Klendenst became councilor of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck in 1318 and had to resign from the council in 1335 due to suspension of payments. As a businessman, he ran large banking transactions with the citizens of Lübeck, Dietrich Witt and Vendenguth, including loaning Count Johann III in 1332 . from Holstein 600 mark pennies and 1333 again 5000 mark pennies. It has also been proven in Mecklenburg through numerous real estate transactions . In 1320 he and his brothers acquired eleven hooves in Timmendorf on the island of Poel in 1320 , another seven hooves in Timmendorf in 1328 and another ten hooves in Neudorf on Poel in 1326. Of these he sold nine hooves in 1333 and donated two vicarages from the rest of the Lübeck Marienkirche in 1328 . According to Fehling, he was involved in a fifth of the entries in the Lübeck Niederstadtbuch between 1330 and 1335 .

In 1334 he received permission to choose a confessor who was authorized to give absolution to him and his family . He was married to Heseke Wullenpunt and lived in his father's house at 39 Broad Street . It was sold in 1335 by his creditors.
