Johanniskirche

The Johanniskirche in Bielefeld , North Rhine-Westphalia , is an Evangelical-Lutheran church building completed in 1901 , which has been a listed building since 1985 .

History and architecture

The asymmetrically designed church made of hammer-right quarry stone masonry was built from 1899–1901 according to plans by the Bielefeld architect Alexander Trappen . It was designed as a gallery church with a semicircular apse , with bustards based on the forms of the Rhenish late Romanesque .

The church tower stands on the side of the west-facing main facade, which is accentuated by a gabled porch with a column portal and above it by a row of arched windows. The southern long side is simple, the northern long side is relatively elaborate with group and large wheel windows under two transverse gables. The façades of the tower are structured on the upper floors by pilaster strips and friezes .

The interior of the church is characterized by the lid-like wooden ceiling and the galleries in the north aisle.
