The Johanniskirche is the former Catholic parish church of Niederwalluf (Rheingau), a district of the Walluf municipality in the Hessian Rheingau-Taunus district . It stands right next to the tower tower wallufer .

The church, which is still in ruins today, was built in 1508 to replace a previous building built in the Middle Ages. During the turmoil of the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) the church was devastated and subsequently used as a stable and barn. With the help of donations, the building could be repaired after the end of the war.

Ruin of the Johanniskirche

The Johanniskirche remained the parish church of Niederwalluf until 1719. After the expansion of the Adelheid Chapel, which was probably built in the 13th century, today's parish church of St. John the Baptist , religious life shifted to the church further west and in the center of the village. Finally, the Johanneskirche should be demolished in 1773. The Niederwallufer pastor Oel prevented this on the grounds that the church was the station of the annual Corpus Christi procession . The ossuary of the church was also still in use. The extensive demolition then followed in 1807.
