The John F. Kennedy Arboretum on the Hook Head Peninsula near New Ross , County Wexford , Ireland is a park under public administration (Dúchas - The Heritage Service). Around 4,500 species of trees and bushes are shown on 252 hectares. The facility is a reminder that Kennedy's great-grandfather was born in the nearby town of Dunganstown in 1820, prompting John F. Kennedy to visit County Wexford in the summer of 1963. The arboretum was opened on May 29, 1968 by then Irish President Éamon de Valera . The facility was made possible primarily through donations from Americans of Irish origin.

The complex also includes a panoramic road that leads up to the summit of Slieve Coillte, from which one has a wide view of the Hook Peninsula and the surrounding area. At the lookout a memorial stone commemorates the rebellious peasants from 1798 who were not allowed to practice their Catholic denomination (see History of Ireland ).

The facility is open all year round.
