John Allen (born April 24, 1955 in Coventry ) is a former English football player .

Career

Allen played for Hinckley Athletic in the West Midlands (Regional) League before joining Leicester City in 1978 . There the center forward remained without a competitive game for the professional team, in May 1980 he joined the fourth division Port Vale . After his debut in August 1980 in a 3-2 defeat by Tranmere Rovers in the League Cup , Allen came regularly to use in the following months and scored four goals in 18 league games. After he was last used in a game in January 1981, Allen returned the following season in non-league football and played again for Hinckley Athletic.
