Five-ring model

Diagram of the five rings of Warden

Warden gained fame through the "model of the five rings" (Warden's Five Rings) , which established a gradual destruction of the opposing structures. The opposing structures are arranged in a ring in his model and should be smashed from the inside out. The five rings included:

  • Political and military leadership in the center
  • Key industry with electricity and water supply, petrochemical and heavy industry, raw material processing, financial sector
  • Transport infrastructure (roads, bridges, train stations, airports, car industry, communication)
  • Civilian population
  • military

The model has been criticized, among other things, because it gives the civilian population a higher target priority over military infrastructures.
