John Babington (knight)

Sir John Babington of Dethick (* around 1423, † August 22, 1485 ) was an English knight from the English noble family Babington

Life

He was a son of Thomas Babington († 1464) and Isabel, daughter of Robert Dethick. On the death of his father, he inherited the family seat of his mother's family at Dethick Manor near Matlock in Derbyshire .

In 1479 he was Sheriff of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and The High Forests . During the Wars of the Roses he fought for the House of York , under Edward IV in April 1471 at the Battle of Barnet and later for Richard III. in August 1485 at the Battle of Bosworth . In the latter, it fell at the hands of Sir James Blount.

Marriage and offspring

Since 1448 he was married to Isabell († 1486), daughter of Henry Bradburne. The couple had the following children:
