John George Baillie-Hamilton, 13th Earl of Haddington ( December 21, 1941 - July 5, 2016 ) was a British peer and politician of the Conservative Party .

Life

Baillie-Hamilton was born in December 1941 to George Baillie-Hamilton, 12th Earl of Haddington , and Sarah Cook († 1995), the younger of two children. He was the only son. He attended Ampleforth College , Trinity College in Dublin and the Royal Agricultural College . He worked as a photographer . He became editor of the Bird Table . He also worked for the Lebanese Tourist Board and the Patron Center for Crop Circle Studies.

After his father's death in 1986, Baillie-Hamilton inherited the title of Earl of Haddington at the age of 45. This also gave him the seat in the House of Lords associated with it . He lost this through the House of Lords Act 1999 . He ran for one of the remaining seats, but only finished 91st place in his party. 42 seats were awarded for these.

Baillie-Hamilton lived on the Mellerstain House estate in Berwickshire . The Hereditary Peerage Association he does not belong to.

family

On April 19, 1975, Baillie-Hamilton and Prudence married Elizabeth Hayles. That marriage ended in divorce in 1981. The second marriage to Susan Heyworth on December 2, 1984 resulted in three children, two daughters and one son.
