John Barron (journalist)
John Daniel Barron (born January 26, 1930 in Wichita Falls , Texas , † February 24, 2005 in Virginia ) was an American journalist who exposed the KGB spy organization of the Communist Soviet Union.
In 1957 he started working as a reporter for the Washington Star newspaper . From 1965 worked in the Washington office of Reader's Digest , writing more than 100 stories on a wide variety of subjects. He soon became a senior editor there.
His book "KGB", which appeared in German in 1973, contained a detailed account of the activities of the Soviet secret service, the text of the secret KGB textbook and a list of the Soviet citizens involved in secret service missions abroad.
In 1980 he reported on open questions about the drowning of 29-year-old secretary Mary Jo Kopechne at Chappaquiddick , who worked as a campaign assistant for Edward Kennedy .
