John Bouz

John Bouz (* 1983 in Sundre / Alberta ) is a Canadian composer, pianist and organist.

Bouz had piano lessons with Dianne Irvine from the age of six . He later took violin lessons and played the trumpet in a school band. After all, he was an organ student of Terrence Fullerton in Calgary . He was also a piano student of Jamie Syer , Janet Hammock and Terrence Dawson and studied music theory with Roman Toi and Robert Rosen . He received an associate degree in piano from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto .

From his early childhood on, Bouz had mainly composed piano works. By the age of sixteen he had won three awards at the Alberta Provincial Music Festival . He received first place in the Jean Coulthard Competition and second place in the competition for young composers of the Alberta Music Teachers Association and the Murray Weiss Music Award . In his works for piano, organ and chamber music instrumentation, he mainly uses serial and aleatoric techniques. 2001 Charles Foreman played the world premiere of his play Eclipse from his Sun Cycle at the University of Calgary ; the recording was broadcast by the CBC in the same year .

Bouz is an organist at Sundre Catholic Church and has given concerts on the organ at Jack Singer Hall in Calgary.
