John Burton (politician)
John Stratford Burton (born November 27, 1927 in Humboldt , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian politician of the New Democratic Party (NDP) and economist.
Career
Burton was the first MP for the Regina East constituency in the House of Commons from September 9, 1968 to September 1, 1972. He was succeeded by Jim Balfour . Initially a member of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), he later belonged to its successor, the NDP. Burton was also the CCF candidate in Melville in the 1957 and 1958 elections and NDP candidate in Melville 1962, Regina City 1965, Regina East 1972, and Wascana 1997, but was defeated in those elections.
