history
The place was first settled in 1875. After a repair station for a telegraph line was set up there, it became increasingly important as an important part of telecommunications in the following years and was named in honor of the German natural scientist Alexander von Humboldt . In 1885 Frederick Dobson Middleton settled there with 950 soldiers and used the place as a base for military operations. At the beginning of the 20th century , members of the Benedictine order under the leadership of Father Bruno Doerfler, who belonged to the Saint Peter-Muenster Abbey , acquired land in order to establish a new branch. With the construction of a railway line, the place continued to grow and in 2000 received the status of "City". The Humboldt Broncos ice hockey team is based in Humboldt .
