Wade Skolney (born June 24, 1981 in Humboldt , Saskatchewan ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player . During his career he was also active for the Philadelphia Flyers from the NHL .
Career
Skolney began his career in 1996 in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League with the Brandon Wheat Kings . The trained defender developed into a high performer with the Wheat Kings and was part of the regular squad. His best season was also his last with the Wheat Kings. The right-handed shooter scored 25 points in a total of 69 games .
In the summer of 2002 Skolney signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers, which, however, mainly used him in their farm team , the Philadelphia Phantoms . Even with the Phantoms in the American Hockey League , the defender was a regular and consistently performed well. In 2005, the Canadian won the Calder Cup with the Phantoms . In the championship final, his team beat the Chicago Wolves 4-0. During the 2005/06 season , the right- shooter got the chance to prove himself in the NHL. Ultimately, however, Skolney completed only one game for the Philadelphia Flyers and was used exclusively in the AHL in the following years.
For the 2006/07 season , the defensive player joined the Pittsburgh Penguins , but was only part of the farm team, the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Penguins . After he finally figured out hardly any chances of a permanent commitment in the NHL, Skolney switched to the Straubing Tigers German Ice Hockey League . His first season in the German elite league was mixed, however, as the Canadian could only score seven points in 52 games and also recorded a plus / minus statistic of −17.
In the summer of 2009 his contract in Straubing ran out, in the following season 2009/10 he was without a club. In 2010 Skolney signed a contract with the Slovenian HK Jesenice , who plays in the Austrian ice hockey league . After a season in Jesenice, he ended his career.
