Ray Holman

Raymond Anthony Holman (* 1944 in Port of Spain ) is a Trinidadian composer , arranger and steel-pan musician.

Life

Holman began playing Steel Pan as a child in the steel band Invaders under Elliot Mannette . In 1972 Holman was the first arranger to compose his own calypso in order to take part in the Panorama steel band competition. This concept was later adopted with success by other well-known arrangers such as Lennox Sharpe and Robert Greenidge .

Professionally, he taught at the renowned Fatima College in Port of Spain. Holman now spends most of his time at North American universities as a guest lecturer and as an ambassador for the national musical instrument of his home country.
