Robert Greenidge

Robert Greenidge (born April 28, 1950 in Laventille ) is a Trinidadian composer and musician on the Steel Pan .

Life

Greenidge grew up in Success Village in Laventille. He started playing steel pan when he was 8 years old. Greenidge emigrated to the USA in 1971 and studied music there at the Third Street Musical Conservatory in New York . In 1974 he settled in Los Angeles . He worked with artists such as John Lennon , Ringo Starr and Taj Mahal . 1991 and 1994 won Greenidge with the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra the steel band competition Panorama . In 1993 he was awarded the Hummingbird Medal in recognition of his achievements.
