The Desperadoes Steel Orchestra , also Despers , is a steel band from Laventille in Trinidad and Tobago .
history
The Desperadoes Steel Orchestra was formed in the early 1950s from the merger of three steel bands in Laventille. The name of the group goes back to the movie Desperadoes with Glenn Ford . The Desperadoes Steel Orchestra was led by Rudolph Charles from 1961 to 1985 . Charles invited various pan builders to work with him and improve the sound of the steel band. Members of the band included Wallace Austin, Lincoln Noel and Bertie Marshall .
The orchestra has performed worldwide, including in 1972 at the Royal Albert Hall , 1987 in Carnegie Hall and 1996 with star tenor Luciano Pavarotti .
