Rudolph Charles
Rudolph Charles (* 1. October 1938 in Laventille ; † 29. March 1985 ) was a trinidadischer steel pan - musicians and instrument makers.
Life
Charles was born in Laventille, a small town merged with the western capital Port of Spain . From 1961 until his death in 1985 he was director and pan builder of the Desperadoes Steel Orchestra . Charles developed various instruments for this steel band , for example the Nine Bass , the Rocket Pans and the Twelve Bass . He also divided the vocal work among a team of pan farmers in order to give his orchestra the best possible sonority.
Rudolph Charles got involved in the cause of the Panplayers and in 1979 was organized as a union in opposition to the Trinidad Steel Band Association. As a result, no panorama competition took place in the same year , but the musicians have since received higher participation bonuses.
