Charles Rothwell Nesson (born February 11, 1939 ) is an American law scholar and William F. Weld professor of law at Harvard Law School . He is considered an opponent of the American Music Association (RIAA).

Life

Nesson received a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College in 1960 . Three years later he received a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School . In 1965 he worked at the United States Supreme Court with John Marshall Harlan . He then worked in the Justice Department in Alabama . In 1966, Nesson went to Harvard Law School. In 1969 he founded the Lawyers' Military Defense Committee there and was director until 1972. From 1974 to 1979 he was director of the Harvard Evidence Film Project and from 1979 to 1982 deputy dean.

Charles Nesson is married with two children.

In 1971 Charles Nesson represented Daniel Ellsberg in the so-called Pentagon Papers case.

In August 2007, he founded the Global Poker Strategic Thinking Society and has been its President since then. Nesson wants poker to be part of the school curriculum because the game teaches negotiation skills, risk assessment and strategic thinking.

In the fall of 2008, Nesson, along with some of his students, took on the defense of one of the RIAA's accused Joel Tenenbaum of copyright infringement by file sharing .
