Lindenau is the smallest district of Sontra in the Werra-Meißner district in northern Hesse .

Lindenau is located southeast of the core town of Sontra, right on the edge of the forest.

history

The small hamlet was first mentioned in 1252 as villa Lindenauwe . It was owned by the Hersfeld Abbey and in the first half of the 14th century came to its daughter monastery Cornberg . From 1458 to 1471 the place was desolate . After the repopulation, Lindenau belonged to the parish of Breitau . Today, the church belongs to the parish of Sontra I. During the Thirty Years War , the few Croatian houses were completely destroyed.

The previously independent community Lindenau was 1 July 1971 at the course of municipal reform in Hesse on a voluntary basis as a district by Sontra incorporated .
