John Callen (born November 4, 1946 in London ) is a British - New Zealand actor , voice actor and director who became internationally known for his role as Óin in the Hobbit trilogy .

Life

Callen was born in London and attended Blackheath High School . He moved to New Zealand with his family at the age of 16. He worked for a radio station and so had contacts for synchronization. He spoke audio books and also worked as a journalist. He later played in theaters and also wrote reviews of stage plays. In addition to synchronization work, he also commented on documentaries.

In addition to his acting duties, Callen also acted as a director . He directed several episodes of the series The Tribe .
