The Tribe [ ðə traɪb ] (German title The Tribe - A World Without Adults ) is a New Zealand science fiction television series for young people. The series was written by Raymond Thompson , has five seasons with a total of 260 episodes and first aired in Great Britain (FIVE) in 1999. The German first broadcast was on April 23, 2001 on KiKa . The series was shot in and around Wellington , New Zealand .
The production of a sixth season was rejected because, according to Raymond Thompson and Nick Wilson (Head of Channel 5), the series went very well, but the actors were getting too old and the core plot was stretched too far. A spin-off was shot called The New Tomorrow , which shows a similar plot, but should appeal to a younger audience, ages eight to twelve.
A film planned for 2014 has not yet been realized due to a lack of sponsors.
action
The series is about a world without adults . After researchers tried to develop an antiaging agent but created a virus that made people age and die in days, only children and teenagers in the world are still alive. You have to different tribes ( Engl. Tribes together) to ensure common survival. The story is based on the Mall Rats, the tribe of the main characters, but also deals with events that take place outside the tribe. One of the most important characters is Zoot as the leader of the Locos. He plays a major role throughout the series, although he dies relatively early. The main venue is a city. There, the Mall Rats their headquarters in a shopping center have (Engl. Mall ). In the course of the series, however, other locations will be added in the area around the city.
All seasons deal with the coherent story of the Mall Rats, which is characterized by individual focuses, but also includes many side stories. Main topics are interpersonal relationships, social and personal problems and politics. The main story is always related to different opponents in the respective seasons. These will be explained below.
- 1st season
- The Locos with their leader Zoot, later Ebony da Zoot dies, spread fear throughout the city under their motto "Power and Chaos". It's all about introducing the characters as well as the creation of the Mall Rats and survival in a crumbled world without modern civilization. The survivors are also confronted with a renewed outbreak of the virus.
- 2nd and 3rd season
- An antidote stops the virus. A new tribe (The Chosen ) appear and worship Zoot like a god and terrorize the entire city over the course of the two seasons until they are defeated by the rebels and civil unrest.
- 4th and 5th season
- The technos , a highly developed tribe, occupy the city. By restoring the supply of water and electricity, they win the favor of the population and manipulate them with a virtual world.
- 5th season
- The zootists are a tribe founded by Ebony who, just like the Chosen Zoot, worships and creates chaos and anomie (colloquially: anarchy) in the outskirts of the city , until Ebony realizes that Mega and Java (technos) have manipulated them into it.
