John Cecil, 4th Earl of Exeter

John Cecil, 4th Earl of Exeter ( 1628 - March 18, 1678 ) was an English peer and politician.

He was the second son of David Cecil, 3rd Earl of Exeter from his marriage to Elizabeth Egerton, daughter of John Egerton, 1st Earl of Bridgewater . Since his older brother Thomas had died childless in 1641, he inherited his father's title of nobility as Earl of Exeter and Baron Burghley when his father died on April 18, 1643 and thereby became a member of the House of Lords .

Between 1660 and 1673 he was Lord Lieutenant of Northamptonshire . He then held that office for East Northamptonshire until 1678 ; he was followed by the Earl of Peterborough

His first marriage was on December 8, 1646, with Lady Frances Manners, daughter of John Manners, 8th Earl of Rutland . From this marriage he had two children:

His second marriage was on January 24, 1670, Lady Mary Fane, daughter of Mildmay Fane , 2nd Earl of Westmorland . The marriage remained childless.
