John Cherleton, 4th Baron Cherleton (also Charlton , born April 25, 1362 , † October 19, 1401 in Powis Castle ) was an Anglo-Welsh Marcher Lord .

John Charlton was the eldest son of John Cherleton, 3rd Baron Cherleton and his wife Joan de Stafford, daughter of Ralph de Stafford, 1st Earl of Stafford . His father died in 1374, making him the heir to his father's estates, especially the Powys Wenwynwyn reign , and the title of Baron Charlton . After he came of age, he served as Justiciar of North Wales in 1387 . Before March 1392 he married Alice FitzAlan, daughter of Richard FitzAlan, 11th Earl of Arundel and Elizabeth de Bohun. During the rebellion of Owain Glyndŵr he supported a campaign by King Henry IV in Wales in August 1401 , but he died in October of the same year. His marriage had remained childless and his younger brother Edward was inherited . After his death, his widow had a relationship with Bishop Henry Beaufort , with whom she allegedly had a daughter, Jane Beaufort .
